TRAMS IN TE ARO

' CITY ENGINEER'S REPORT.

Certain requests brought before the Tramways Committee recently by the Te Aro Advancement Association -were briefly considered in a report by tho City Engineer (Mr. W. H. Morton) laid before the council last evening. It-was questionable, Mr. Moj-ton said, whether it would be advisable to duplicate the track through Vivian-street on account of its narrowness. "In any case I see no early prospects of being able to undertake this work," he added, "in view of the important duplications and* connections already-approved by the council." In regard to Wallace-street cars connecting with the railway station, these cars run through to Lambton Station during heavy traffic in the morning, midday, and evening. All the ears available for traffic were now in use daily during the evening rush hours. The construction of a connecting line between Cuba-street and Willis-street and extension and duplication of the Wallace-street line were both matters which should he held over pending a. report on improved facilities for connecting up the-city with the southern portion of the tramway system. The report was adapted.
