DEBIT BALANCE FOR YEAR.

The City Treasurer's statement of finance was presented by the Mayor at last, night's .. meeting. of the City Council, in the receipts and expenditure of the City Corporation for the year ended 31st March last. The receipts amounted to £314,404 126 2d, the chief items being as •follow :—Rates, £208,665 17s 9d ; rents, £42.447 0s 6d ■■; and water, £17.867 17s lOd. A debit balance of £14,752 19s 5d was shown.

On the expenditure side the following items were among the largest set out :— ■.
