(Received April 1, 10 a.m.)
LONDON,-30th March. Though the Select Committee lhas decided that the taxation of war wealth is impracticable, Mr. Austen Chamberlain (Chancellor of the Exchequer) urged it to continue the inquiry, because he has been designing the Budget on a large yield from that source. It will be impossible, to grant the intended relief on small incomes unless new sources of revenue are tapped. : ,Mr. Chamberlain met the Committee privately to-day, and the Committee decided to resume the inquiry. , Mr. Cham, berlain is considering whether the terms ofl reference should oe extended.
/' The Daily Chronicle says the excess profits tax will be dropped in the coming Budget. :.■■.. ,
