ANCIENT CIVILISATIONS
Mr. J. Manuel Kitto gave an address in the' New Esperanto Hall on Sunday night on "Ancient Civilisations and their KeliHions." He said that in all ages could bo found traces of ' old ancient civilisations which flourished in pre-his-torio times. Some of them in many ways reached to a higher level than our own; whilst others pointed to a savage state. Professor Petrie, in lectures delivered at the Royal Institution, on "Prehistoric Remains," said that 7000 years B.C. seemed to him the limit within which the complete history of li'gypt could be compressed. Mr. Kitto pointed out that the wonderful remains ol old buildings, roads, temples, viaducts, pottery, flint instruments, and sculptuva that were found in Mexico, Peru, Egypt, and other countries were equal to, if not better than, the workmanship of to-day. He also said that the. Peruvians were sun-worshippers. Praise was offered daily to the Spirit of the Sun, but. never prayer; because the Deity knew better than they what was required for . their welfare. Fruit and flowers were offered in their temples, but never the slain bodi«« of animals. Other race.* also worshipped, not the "Idol," but t,ho Spirit of God behind it, and if Spiritualists wished to reach the highest stag© they 'should worship in- Spirit and in Truth. Mr. T. Blake gave a number of clairvoyant messages, which were greatly appreciated.
