Admiral Sims, giving, evidence before the Naval Investigation Committee, named Bear-Admiral Benson as the author ( of the celebrated admonition: "Do net allow the British to pull the wool over your eyes. Wo would as soon fight the British, as the Germans." Admiral Sims said that,, owing to Benson's notorious anti-British attitude, he did not pay particular attention to his language. Admiral Benson's influence throughout the navy was, however, considerable.
