N.S.W. ELECTION

LABOUR STRONGEST PARTY

PREMIER'S DEFEAT LIKELY

FINAL RESULTS STILL IN DOUBT.

(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPTRIOHT.)

SYDNEY, 21st March.

A careful analysis of the election figures revised to-day shows the probable composition of the new Parliament to be : Labour 42 .Nationalists 27 Progressives 11 Doubtful 10 Ministers are anxiously watching the present indefinite position, and are obviously prepared for a small Labour majority. Both sides, however, are very aautious, owing to the possibility of an evenly-divided House. With the almost certain defeat 61 Mr. Holman the Minis-, | try will go out of office. Whether the Labourites will hav-s a majority or not, I they will certainly have the strongest party. The Governor is almost certain to commission Mr. J, Storey to form a Ministry, although in certain quartersit is considered that another election will be necessary shortly to secure a workable Parliament. Mr. W. C. Graham©, late Minister of Agriculture, has been definitely defeated in the Newcastle Division.'. The only member of the present Cabinet likely to lose his seat is -Mr. J. T. Crane, Assistant Minister of Lands. The intricacies of selecting a, preferential order in some cases from I twenty candidates and the multiplicity of instructions perplexed the electors, and possibly accounted for the light poll and the heavy informal vote. (Received March 23, 11 a.m.) „ SYDNEY, This Day. There will be no alteration , in the. election figures until the postal, absent voters', and the second preference votss ara counted, and the calculations for the final results are more or less speculative. It is expected that at least a fortnight will elapse before the. final figures are known. There are still about 1200 absent and postal votes outstanding in Mr. Hohnan's electorate.
