LOWER HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL

The- fortnightly meeting of the Lower Hutt Borough Council was held last evening. Prencnt: The Mayor (Mir. K. P. Eishworth), Councillors A. J. Hobbs, W. B. Hardy, W. Cotton, A. Macaskill, W. Meldrum, and J. Mitchell. .. : The secretary of the Hutt Park Committee wrote applying for a grant of £10 towards the committee's fund. It was resolved to put £10- oh the estimates as requested. The Hutt Hockey Club wrote asking for the use of part of the Recreation Ground. It was decided, on 'the motion of the Mayor, that the Rugby Union be asked to notify the council within seven days whether it accepted or other, wise the council's offer of the grounds. Failing ths union's acceptance the Mayor to have power to deal with the, Hockey Association. Mr. Ingram, water works engineer, was granted a fortnight's leave of absence. The engineer (Mr. Gumbley) reported that the rearrangement of street lamps on Ludlam-crescent had been carried out. Five new connections had been made with the sewers, and four new water, services laid. For the month or January last the quantity of gas purchased from Petone amounted' to 1,952,000 cubic feet. All the concrete work at Mitchell's bridge, with the n:I ception of the spandrel wall, has been completea. The earthwork is proceeding as well as can be expected, considering the nature of the face. The total cost to date has been £130 16s 6d. The cost of installing a water main in Hume-street would be £457.
