ANNUAL MEETING OF LEAGUE

The annual meeting of the Wellington Rugby Football League was held in the Trades Hall last evening. Mr. F. C. Evans presided over a good attendance.

Mr." Evans said 1 that thn meeting was the first general meeting that had been held since the war, and it really amounted to the formation of a new body. Many members had served at the front, and several had lost their lives. It seemed regrettable, said Mr. Evans, that they would again have to fight the Rugby Union —a- ■ kindred, body, but the union had barred league'plavers from \ts competitions, and the fight, he was afraid, would havo to go on. As .far as the leaguo was concerned, the fight would be carried on in a sportsmanlike manner. The matter of grounds would be one of their main difficulties.

The rejiort and balance-sheet (summaries of which havo been already published) were adopted. Officers were elected as follows:—President, ?.lr. G. H. Scales; vice-presidents, Messrs. M. J. Beardon, J. 0. Shorland, G. Frost, C. H. Chapman, J. Glover, Mawson, O'Sullivan, J. M'Donald, Nees, W. S. Brice, and C. B. Norwood; selection committee, Messrs C. Murphy, E. Buckland, and G-. Bradley; secretary, Mr. J. Murphy; treasurer, Mr. H. Cranston; delegate to conference of leagues to be held on 2nd April, Mr. F. C. Evans. A committee, consisting of Messrs. A. E. Dobson, P. O'Connell, and W. Langridge was set up to go into an insurance scheme, and bring down recommendations to be approved by a meeting of delegates. It was decided to call a meeting of referees with a view to the formation of an association.
