FOR CHILDREN

DAY NURSERIES NEEDED.

The case for a day nursery for children, together with sufficient land to form a playground, was placed before the Reserves Committee of the City Council yesterday by a deputation from the Citizens' Day Nursery Society, consisting of Mesdames A. Gray, yon- Haast, Levy, Lester, and Miss Ruth Wallace. In the absence of Mrs. J. P. Luke,. Mrs. Gipy was spokeswoman. ' " .

Mrs. Gray explained the benefit it would be to mothers, who had to go out to "work or shopping, if they could leave their children in the hands of' people who would feed and care for them in the mother's absence. What the society sought was that the committee should recommend the council to allow a day nursery to be erected on one of the city reserves with enough land adjacent to form a playground for the children. The idea was that mothers who could afford to do so should pay a reasonable charge, but that the nursery would be ever open to those who could not afford to pay. The Chairman (Councillor G. Frost, Acting-Mayor) promised that the committee would consider* the matter and report to the City Council at its next meeting.

The committee of the society is hoping ta receive financial support from the public to the scheme, and citizens who care to help may forward donations to Mrs. J. P. Luke or Mrs. A. Gray (secretary), or Miss. Ruby Wallace [treasurer). It" is probable that a. day for the raising of funds from the public will be soon arranged.
