ST. PATRICK'S DAY
The St. Patrick's Day sports aro to bo held at Nowtown Park on Wednesday, and a highly-attractive programme has been arranged. The- procession, which is always a feature of tho day's proceedings, will leave. Boulcott-street at 9.30 a.m. It will be composed of children attending the Catholic schools, of the city of the upper standards, tableaux, St. Patrick's College students, Hibernians, Hierarchy and clergy, and others. Two bands will also take part. Special events have been sot asido for members of amateur athletic clubs, and the trophy money to be awarded is the largest yet offered in Wellington. Highland dancing and Irish jig competitions aro expected to draw big entries. To the prize-winners will be devoted some 29 medals and two rose bowls. Tho baby show, which is always a success from the entry point of view, is to receive increased prize-money. The Marist Bros. Old Boys' Association will have charge of the side-showe. Tho present indications are for a large entry for the tug-of-war. The latest conditions controlling pulls will be adhered to, and the item is billed for 5 p.m. Mr. B. A. Guise, will officiate as referee, and Mr. M. J. O'Malley as timekeeper. Tho pulls will be of three, minutes' duration. A surprise packet scheme will be supervised by Mr. 0. J. Pfaff. As usual, the grand national concert is- to take place in the Town Ha-ll in tho evening. Tho artists engaged are Fred. G. Bourko, (Auckland), W. Waiters (Oamaru), Mrs. Seg-rieff-Grant, Misses Mary M'Kpowen and Mabel Esquilant. The Marist Bros. Schools' choirs will open each part of tho concert, and a six-handed reel will bo danced, accompanied by a piper. Mr. Kevin Dillon will recite. Seats »may bo reserved at The Bristol.
