MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Messrs. R. D. Hanlon and I. Salek, J.P.s, presided at the Magistrate's Court to-day.
Patrick Beattie, an articled seaman, pleaded guilty to having been absent without leave from the steamship Parattah, and to having rnado use of obscene language on the Queen's Wharf. Ho stated that he had no recollection of having assaulted John Thomas, the second officer, but the assaulted man and a witness had perfectly clear recollections of the occurrence. The Bench took a serious view of the case, and on tho chorgo of having used obscene language sent tho'man to gaol for three months. He was fined £2, in default a month hi gaol, for the assault, and was ordered to 'pay costs amounting to £2 2s on the first charge, (Piflcesding.)
