HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL
The annual ■ statutory meeting of the Hutt County Council was held yesterday. Mr. F. G. Cooper was in the chair, and there were also present: Councillors W. J. Howell, M. W. Welch, J. Whiteman, W. Galloway, and P. Cavanagh. Mr. A. W. Feist, of Day's Bay, asked for permission to erect a motor shed oh the roadway at the bay. The application was refused, and it was decided to prosecute others who have built sheds which encroached on the roadway. The inspector (Mr. J. W Cudby) reported that good progress .had been made with the concrete culvert at Day's Bay, but delay in obtaining the necessary cement had unfortunately prolonged the job. Otherwise the wcirk would have been completed. It had been reported that carters at Paekakariki were constantly removing sand from the sea beach fronting the parade, and well within the area which came under the jurisdiction of the council. He suggested that the caretaker of the beach be placed on the same footing as that of the caretaker at Plimmerton. It was decided that the whole council should constitute the Works and Finance Committees. Any two councillors were empowered to sign cheques.
