MR. E. MACDONALD AT LEVIN

Mr. Evelyn Mac Donald, working farmer candidate for Otaki, addressed a large meeting at Levin on Thursday evening. Ho explained that he was an Independent, and stood for no party. He was a strong advocate of the abolition of the party system. It had been mentioned, continued the speaker, that he was seeking election on the farmers' political policy, but that was absolutely incorrect. The only policy he had was his own. Mr. Mac Donald condemned the go-slow policy, and characterised it as nothing short of burglary. It was the duty of the farmer to understand the worker, and it was also the duty of the worker to understand the farmer. After dealing with the land question at some length, the candidate concluded by stating that electoral reform was necessary, and the cost of living should be grappled with at once. He asked his audience to trust to him to do the right and honest thing in Parliament. A vote of thanks concluded the meeting.
