WELCOME TO NEW VICAR
The social gathering organised to welcome the Bey. G. C. Blathwayt, the new vicar, and Mrs. Blathwayt to St. Hilda's Parish, Island Bay, and held last evening, proved a very pleasant and successful gathering. The hall was filled with. a representative gathering of parishioners. Speeches wore made by the Bishop of Wellington, Mr. Barnes (churchwarden), and Mr Proctor, the veteran lay-reader, and were replied to by Mr. Blathwayt. The stage had been charmingly decorated tor the occasion. An excellent musical programme was given by. the Misses Bland, Mueller, and Willoughby, Mr. Allan (organist) and the church choir. Supper was provided by the ladies, and among tho clergy present were the Yen. Archdeacon Johnson (St. Paul's), Hey. A. T. B. Page (St. Mavk'a), Hey. W. Fancqurt (St. Thomas's), and the Rev. Mr. Stent (Eastbourne).
IJv. Putnam came back from Sydney by the Rivcrina, and returned to Palnicrston North on Tuesday night. Mrs. Putnam will remain in bydiiey for another month.
