MANGAMAHOE WINS BIG EVENT

For. the concluding day of the Jackland Racing Club's Spring Meeting, the weather was fine but dull, and the attendance fair. The racing was excellent. The King Edward Memorial Handicap was won all the 'way, Mangamahoe taking the load from the barrier. Lucullan comfortably won the j Musket Stakes. Benzine dropped dead in the paddock after winning the Hurdlo race. The lotalisator handled £57,892 ICte, the total for the meeting being £122,642 10s. Remaining results • . King Edward Memorial Handicap, of 1000 soys; one mile and a-half.—3 Mangamahoo, 7.10 (T Glover), 1; 1 TJnclo Ned, 8.12, 2; 2 Depredation, 8.6, 3. Also started : 4 Alteration 8.7, 9 Gold.Kip 8.0, 6 Marqueteur 710, 7 Mullingar 7.9, 8 Housewife 7.6, 5 Blue Cross 7.2, 10 Ohinewairua 7.1, 11 Killard 6.7, 12 Lady Energy 6.7. The winner began first, and led past the stand, attended by BlueCross and Housewife. Entering the straight, Uncle Ned made an effort, and Depredation got a good run on the rails, but neither could reach Mangamahoe, who -won by two lengths. Tho third horse was one and a;-half langths back, and Marqueteur fourth. v Time, 2min 35sec. - m ■ Epsom Handicap, of 400 soys; six furlongs.—2 Demagogue, 7.9 (L. Morris), 1; 1- Taiamai, 8.4, 2; 4 Hetaua, 8.10, 3. Also started : 5 Bedford 8.10, 9 Crowhurst 8.4, 8 Escaped 7.9, 3 Queen Abbey 7.8, 6 Jutland 7.8, 10 Canzonet 6.13, 7 Comedy Prince 6.9. Taiamai was early leader, and led into th© straight. Demagogue came on in the straight, and in a stirring finish, won by a neck. The third horse was half a-length away, and Bedford was fourth. Time, lmin 14 2-ssec. Musket Stakee, of 400 soys; four furlongs.—l Lucullan, 8.4 (Hewitt), 1; 2 Weary Willie, 9.5, 2; 5 Listowel, 8.10, 3. Also started : 3 Tessares 8.10, 4 Landslide 8.7, 6 Stork 7.5, 9 Lovelight 7.4, 7 Mise Muriel 6.12, 8 Jaffna 6.12. The winner took the lead from the first furlong, and won by two lengths, tho third horee being three-quarters of a. I length a.wa,y. Tessarea was fourth. Timo, 49 3-ssee. Normanby Handicap, of 275 soys; seven furlongs.—l Bitholia, 8.9 (W. Ryan), 1; 10 Don't, 7.5, 2: 11 General Stephen, 8.5, 3.
