• The council of the New Zealand Society of Accountants regrets, in its annual report, that, owing to pressure of privat* business Mr. Ernest W. Hunt has found it necessary to resign his position as secretary to the society. The present position of the society is very largely due to Mr. Hunt's watchfulness and initiative, and the council desires to place on record its high appreciation of his services. Several members referred at last; night's annual meeting of the society, in eulogistic terms to the splendid work performed by Mr.. Hunt in connection with the founding and carrying on of th« society. At a meeting of the council of the New Zealand Society of Accountant!! held this week, Mr. William E. Best, of Christchurch, was elected president for the ensuing year, and Mr. Walter Green, of Dunedin, vice-president. Both these gentlemen have been members of the council since its inception in 1909. Sir. \V. G. Riddell, S.M., held an inj quiry yesterday afternoon into the death of Isaac Antonoff, an art dealer and picture frame-maker, at the Wellington Hospital on Wednesday. The deceased, "who was 40 years of age, was a married mail with a wife and child, residing at Happy Valley. On 23rd' June last he was discovered with a cut in Iris throat, and was removed to the Hospital. He bad been in the institution on other occasions to be treated for phthisis. The medical testimony was to the effect that the deceased died from acute phthisis, and a verdict was returned accordingly. , Sergeant Cruickshank conducted the inqtiiry on behalf of the police. The visit to 'Wellington of the Boy. W. Bullock, organising secretary of the Church of England Men's Society, will be brought to a close on Sunday, when a mass meeting for men will bo held in the King's Theatre, at 3 p.m. An address will be delivered by Mr. Bullock on the subject "Democracy and Christianity."
