TRAMWAY MEN WHO BECAME SOLDIERS
From the outbreak of the war to its conclusion 174 members of the staff and employees of the Wellington Corporation . tramway service joined the New, Zealand Expeditionary Force. In all twelve of these men laid down their lives. Their names were as follow : —C. Rider, W. J. Smith, R. Brown, C. Allan, E. N. Player, W. Whyte, F. A. J. Barton, W. H. Moore, E. R. Baker, R. T. Heaney, A. C. Palmer, and T. Shaw. In the general manager's annual report, just circulated, these men are remembered under the quotation, " Pro Rege et Patria." As regards the electric lighting department, the honoured names are: F. De Rose, D. M'Gillivray, and F. Ham.
