G.P.O. DISPLAY

Much interest was taken by sightseers in the very attractive display at the General Post Office during the Peaco Celebrations. On the centre portion under the clock tower were all the flags of the countries within the League of Nations. They were displayed, by transparencies on the windows, the illuminating of which was carried out on Saturday by Wizardl Light. The cloth-cover-ed screens, blue and white, were designed to screen the transparent flags from the light of the general illuminations, and the colours chosen to decorate the front of the .screens with colours of the League of Nations. The Empire Dominion flags draped on this front were emblematical of the Dominion's share in the war and in the subsequent Peace. Th& whole was crowned with a large painted sign, bearing the words, "Peace with Honour." The display on the Featihers-ton-street front was in a more elaborate style, the two ends of the building having Venetian masts draped with Allied coloured bunting arid laurel wreaths and festoons, the centre at the main entrance being artistically draped with national flags surmounted with a banner inscribed, "Peace Won by Duty Done." The whole front from the top of the roasts to the upper windows was gaily festooned with bunting'and flags. On each mast and in numerous windows a distinctive and appealing feature was given prominence in the form, of battalion blazes, as worn by the boys both in France and in Egypt. These were mounted on a khaki-covered shield crowned with sprays of small Allied flags. The Main Body men were given priority, and. were displayed in the centra of the building, the first four infantry battalion shields being- placed on the.tiers of the main entrance, flanked on either side by the regiments of Mounted Rifles, whose shields were mounted on the first Venetian masts. Battalions and units of other ■brigades were represented. in prominent positions on other ndjacent masts and in the windows of the second floor. Several units were not represented, simply because there are no regimental blazes similar to thoso displayed. The main vestibule was taken possession of by the Post Office girls, and the pleasing and artistic effect of their efforts was universally admired. ■■'■'■
