TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —I have been one of many who have been awaiting Sir James Allen's pleasure for the payment of the retrospective allowances, ' and after all this waiting we'are'informed that the allowance'will only.be.paid from'date of embarkation. . No person will be foolish enough to swallow this ex--cuse.. The position is that every man will bo robbed of at least four months' allowances, and all n.c.o.'s who went through the n.c.o. class will bo deprived of six months. As who has had a good insight into, the methods of the 'Record Branch, I say that the excuse made by the Defence Minister for the non-payment for the time spent in camp in New Zealand is not tenable. As I have waited so long I am not averse to waiting another three months to enable Sir James Allen and his staff to fully investigate the records and enable every man to get his allowance from date of entering camp. The Second Division' were paid from the date ofj entering- camp, and we will not be satisfied until we get treated likewise. Surely it is not too much trouble for the staff of Base Records, to. thoroughly search the records to ensure a square deals to ttie." wents,". to place them on the same level as the "sents."—l am, etc., WENT
