TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —Now . that Brigadiar-General Richardson has arrived in New Zealand to undertake the appointment of Officer in Charge of Administration, it is to be hoped that he will as soon as possible turn his attention to the men of' the Home Service Section. In view of the fact that large increases in pay have been granted to officers of the Expeditionary Forces and home service officers, and now a payment of 3s per day is to be made to all members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force from date of embarkation till the date of discharge, is it not time that something was done as regards a payment'to members of the home service section? There have been large numbers of married men employed in this branch of the service, and they have had to pay very deaz'fy for their commodities, a great many now feel that the position is anything but fair. The New Zealand Army Ordnance Corps has. been in existence for some1 two years, and.it is full time that some consideration was given to the rank and fife. The payment to married men (privates) is £3 10s per week, which is quite inadequate at the present time, when the cost of living is so expensive. It is to be hoped that General Richardson will go. into this matter as soon as possible, and , endeavour to have this placed,on a better footing. It must be remembered that a 1 large proportion of the men of . tho homo servico section volunteered. their services, and were rejected, either being medically unfit or too near the age limit for service overseas.—l am, etc.,
