LONDON, 30th April.
The Daily Chronicle's Berlin correspondent states that there is convincing evidence that influential people are ready to compromise with the Communists to save their own skins. Others are eager to grasp the Bolshevist torch, with .a. view to throwing it into the Entente countries. It is frequently alleged that Brockdorff-Bantzau and others are wedded to the idea that Bolshevism is a good ally against the Western Powers. The correspondent put a question to Rantzau on this point, but received no reply. Well-known financial magnates have provided between a million and a quarter and million and a half sterling lor the purposes of Bolshevism and propaganda in England, France, and Italy, and agents are travelling with forged French, Belgian, and Czech passports. Many prominent men are already currying favour with the Bolshevist element, with a view to^ selfprotection. . A member of the Stinnes family of coal magnates offered to compromise with the Communists by agreeing to surrender the mines, provided the family is not ruined. ■
