DISPOSAL OF HIDES.
The Wellington hides sale, fixed to take place upon the 11th April was postponed until yesterday, in consequence of the conference sitting upon the 9th and 11th April for the purposes of modifying the conditions of the proclamation gazetted upon the 6th March, so far as they relate to the export of hides and calfskins. Messrs. Levin and Co. report that Ntue arrangements arrived at at the conference held upon the above dates at the invitation of the Minister-in-charge of the Board of Trade, with a view to arriving at some more satisfactory system ,in connection with tho embargo at present on the exports of hides, were that a graduated Ecale of prices should be fixed for best hides. This would run out at the average price of 13d per lb, and for cow hides 12d per lb, and for grades and qualities not scheduled, including cut and slippy hides at relative values, the prices being I f.o.b. The price for calfskins is to be reviewed in June next, any alteration to come into force on the Ist July..
