RIFLE SHOOTING
TO-DAY'S MEETING AT
TRENTHAM,
No. 5 Group (Wellington City and Suburbs) is holding its annual rifle meeting at Trentham to-day, the weather being beautifully fine. The meeting easily constitutes a Dominion record for the number of competitors, there being no fewer than 1180, which far exceeds any total registered at any previous rifle meeting. The number includes over 900 cadets, who thus constitute the main feature of the gathering. The cadets' events were, got off this morning,:' and the .Territorials and Rifle Club members are firing this ' afternoon. The visitors this afternoon included Sir James Allen (Minister of Defence) and MajorGeneral Sir A. W. Robin (General Officer Commanding the Forces).
The trophies being competed for include : Champion Challenge Belt, Silver Challenge Shield, Frandi Memorial Cup and Medal, presented by Major A. A. Corrigan, Young Soldiers Challenge Cup, Silver Challenge Cup, presented by Mr: F. Grady, Silver Challenge Cup, presented by Captain T. J. Davis, gold medalS, presented by Mr._T. Coltman, Mr. W. Tucker, Lieutenant* H. H. Morris, Lieutenant P. C. Watt, Mr.'L. R. Partridge, and Lieutenant Roberts. A silver medal haß been presented anonymously; ten bronze medals, to go to the winning cadet team under 16, presented by Lieutenant •H. H. Morris and Mr. F. H. C. Smith; Silver Challenge Cup, presented by Levin and Co.; Silver Challenge Cup, presented by Major Halpin; and Major Hume Memorial Cup, presented by No. 9 Company, Garrison Artillery.
