THE CHILDREN'S WELCOME

The Fifth Standard scholars of the various schools in Wellington—about 1000 strong altogether—were taken out to the Athenic this morning on the Duchess. Songs were sung, and loud cheers were given for the returning soldiers. If possible the proceedings were even more enthusiastic than was the case when the Hororata arrived. The Eastbourne Borough Council very generously placed the Duchess at the disposal of the scholars, and the vessel has been promised for future occasions.
