AMATEUR ATHLETICS
Next Saturday, ou the Basin Reserve, will bo witnessed the first amateur athletic sports carnival held in Wellington since tho New Zealand championships of February, 1915. For the meeting, which will be controlled by. the coramittees of the Wellington and Victoria College Amateur Athletic Clubs, a programme of nineteen events Has been set •down for decision, including the following Wellington provincial championships: 100 yards, 220 yards, 440 yards, one mile run, high jump and long jump, also 100 yards and 440 yards inter-col-lege championships, and 100 yards and 220 yards public school championships. The inter - college and schools championships carry with them competition for tho challenge cup presentod by Mr. L. Blundell, a vicepresident of the Wellington A.A. Club. During the past few weeks several evening sports meetings have been held both in town and at Lower Hutt; therefore the local candidates for championship honours will be jr. condition to see out a hard-run race. Advices received from Wairarapa, Palmerston, and Manawatu indicate that clubs in these districts will be well represented, especially the Masterton Club, which has luways in the past sent down & formidable team.
