NEW POLICY ALARMS

LABOUR

OON_SAET TO LEAGUE OF NATIONS PROPOSAL

SKCTLEMENT OF EUROPE

MENACED.

(D_f_ m«S ASSOCIATION.—CMTMGHT.)

(A-I_u__w ZEALAND CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received March 8, 10 «un.)

LONDON, sth March. The executive of the Labour Party has passed a resolution declaring that it viewed with disquietude the Government's policy as outlined in Mr. Churchill's Army Estiniates. These assume a European policy of prolonged interference and military responsibility, which will menace peace and the settlement of Europe. An essential feature of a democratic League of Nations was the prohibition of conscription in every shape and form in every nation joining the League. _ Also it was essential to establish a deliberative democratic assembly within the League which will represent the peoples instead of the Governments, and shall be elected directly by Parliament. The principle of the open door must be applied to all colonial possessions and protectorates.

[In-the House of Commons Mr. Winston "Churchill, in ' moving the Army Estimates providing for three and a-ha)f million men, pointed out that the figures were provisional, owing to the uncertainties of the future.]
