WELLINGTON LAND BOARD

There was a very large, amount of business at this month's meeting of the Wellington Land Beard, and the meeting, which commenced on Thursday morning, did not conclude until 10 a.m. to-day. There were present- Messrs. G. H. M. M'Clure (in the chair), J. Dawson, H. T. Elhngham, J. Georgetti, and C. M'lntyre. Blocks of land in various parts of the district were granted to the following returned soldiers : Ernest E. Pope, W. R. Manning, Charles R. M'Kenzie, F. J. Evans, and C. A. S. Perrin. The board dealt with 44 applications from soldiers for dwellings. There were also 18 applications for assistance to purchase rural lands.

His Honour Sir Bassett Edwards, who has been on a health • recruiting trip to Australia for some months, has returned to New Zealand very much improved in health. He will, preside at the' criminal sessions of the Supreme Court opening in Wellington on Monday.

Mr. Charles Holdsworth, managing director of the Union Steamship Company, arrived at Montreal last Tuesday week on his way back from England after an absence of two years, and is expected to reach New Zealand next month.

A pair of stained-glass windows, presented to St. Thomas's Church, Wellington, by a casual worker, will be unveiled at 10.30 a.m. to-morrow by the Bishop of Wellington.

Three special services are being conductod at the Salvation Army Hall, Con-stable-street, South Wellington, to-mor-row by Commissioner Hodder, who will be assisted by Mrs. Hodder and Colonel and Mrs. M'lnnes. In the afternoon the commissioner will deliver his lecture "Broken Earthenware." During the day the 1919 session cadets who have just taken up their residence .in the training garrison, Aro-etreet, will be welcomed.

Miss C. Simpson, L.A.8., will resume teaching at the Bristol Piano Co.'s rooms, on Wednesday next.

On Sunday morning-, at tho half-past 10 service, tho Bishop of Wellington will unveil two stained glass windows recently erected in St. Thomas's Church, Newtown. Tho windows, which have been donated by "an occasional worshipper," are quite a handsome work of art.

The committee of the Evans Bay Swimming Club, in -response to numerous requests, has decided to hold tho winter dances every Saturday instead ■of fortnightly as before.

Professor Hunter will deliver a lecture on Public Credit and its Institutions" at tho Alexandra Hall on Sunday evening.

The Wellington Patriotic Society's Band will play selections at the Botanical Gardens to-morrow afternoon.
