MASTERTON, This Day. The Masterton Labour Party has decided to select, by preferential voting, candidates for the Masterton Trust Lands Trust and Borough Council.
An address was given by Mr. J. C. Cooper on Wednesday to members of the Farmers' Union in Masterton on the question of prices for stock. Mr. Cooper pointed out that the by-products of the freezing works, such as tallow and hides, wore not as valuable to-day as tbey were a few months ago. Bro. N. R. Armstrong, P.A., of the Totara Lodge of Druids, has been appointed to represent the Wairarapa District Board at the annual conference, to be held shortly at Wanganui. . The Masterton branch of the Farmers' Union has nominated. Captain R. J. Beetham. and Messrs. Hugh Morrison and G. R. Sykes, M.P., for the local .Repatriation Committee.
Tho. Waingawa freezing worts employees have passed a resolution, urging the Government to establish memorial workshops for disabled returned soldiers. Although a few children in Masterton are suffering from a mild form, of influenza, no serious case has developed for some weeks past. Considerable annoyance has been caused through the opening of Masterton Distriot High School, which has now been closed for twelve weeks, being delayed in consequence of painters being on the building.
