900,000 MEN TO BE RETAINED
FIVE ARMIES OF OCCUPATION.

LONDON, 30th January.
The Wax Office- announce that the British armies at the date ot the armistice numbered 3£ millions. Demobilisation will proceed as rapidly; as possible, retaining 900,000 men as an army of occupation. The latter -vrill receive weekly bonueses as foJlo\V : —Privates 10s 6d, non-coms. 12s 3d to 14s, officers 21s to 425. There will be1 five armies of occupation, termed' the Home, Bhine. Middle East, Far North, and India Armies. No soldier under twenty will t>e required to serve anywhere except in the Home and Rhine Armias. It is believed that recruiting for tho voluntary army will improve as soaii as the great mass "who have fought return to civil life. Upon the steady liebuiHing of the Army depends the relief of the Territorial Battalions in India (and other distant stations.
