RATE OF DEMOBILISATION
SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE IN FAY,

It is understood that the Cabinet Council discussed demobilisation, the size of the army of occupation, and the strikes. The rate of demobilisation is now 35,000 daily. .
It is expected that the men who joined before 1916 will automatically be demobilised. The approximate army needed in the next eight or nine months will be about .900,000, but the number will diminish as volunteering develops and responsibilities contract. The general aim will be to demobilise all over 30 years of age. The men who are retained in the army for various necessary purposes will get substantially increased pay.
LONDON, 28th January. Mr. Will Appleton states that the efforts of the Federation of Trade Unions will probably succeed in getting an increase of soldiers' pay to a guinea a week.
