MUSICAL AND ELOCUTIONARY COMPETITIONS.
The competitions promoted by the Wellington Competitions Society promise to bo a great success. No fewer tlian 1535 entries were received from aspirants from all parts of the Dominion. Too much importance cannot be attached to fostering a love of the fine arts in the community. The uplifting value of music, song, and story is very great. Not only will the competitors benelit by having their work judged by competent judges, but the competition cannot fail to do much towards raising the standard of artistic work. The competitions includo instrumental and vocal music, elocution, essays, _ impromptu speaking and debate, original story and poem, classical and Highland dancing.
