THEFT OF LUGGAGE
Some little time ago, a soldier named David M'Arthur Todd was brought before Mr F V. Frazer, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court, charged with the theft of approximately £130 worth of luggage belonging to Grace Richardson at Taihape some months ago, and was remanded several times, and finally the ' case.could'not be completed as the owner ot the property- could not be found. It appears that she has been for a considerable time undergoing hospital treatment, but: on becoming convalescent, informed the' police of. her whereabouts, with the result that the case wae'reopened this morning; when she gave evidence leading.up to "the'theft.". Todd, she alleged, with' Whoni 'she had been travel-ling-about the North Island, had at Palmerston North snatched her hand--bag containing "cash and. the' luggage tickets and so had been able to secure the luggage where it was stored further np the line. Accused had already been committed-for--trial -at the Supreme Court. ......
