M. GUNSON'S INDIGNANT PROTEST
! A REPREHENSIBLE BUSINESS. I ' AUCKLAND, This Day. The Mayor (Mr. Gunson), commenting on the landing of the New Zealand passengers, said : "I think the whole business is reprehensiblo in the extreme. j From the outset we have been actuated by only one desire—to secure adequate | protection in the interests of the health of our citizens. In my official capacity, with backing of the citizens, I.have done all that was possible, and the action of the Government to-day in releasing passengers and luggage from a disease-in-fected ship within 36 hours of their leaving the ship, must now be left with the citizens of this Dominion to deal with. It is a thing unheard of in any part of the world where quarantine regulations are in force, and offers a striking contrast to the action of the Australian authorities. As for the Mabnra sailing for Sydney, this in the circumstances Was I a proper courts to allow, lam stir* oat 1 citueas will be glad aha ia.gone."
