"LEG-PULLING"
THE ENDLETSBERGER CASE.
''Somebody is pulling somebody's leg," remarked the Minister of Justice in tie House of Representatives, when a member raised the question about the apparent conflict of statements in the reports of the csfie of Dr. Endletsberger, who was permitted to go from Motuibi Island (where he had been interned) to treat a case ashore. The Minister declared that he regarded his action as only human in the circumstances; it was a question of saving life. (Members : Hear, hear.) Commenting on an interjection, "Somebody's lying," the Minister said he did not know who was lying, but personally he had acted throughout in good faith, in the hope of helping to save life. The Hon. Dr. Pomare said that Germans had been allowed to come ashore to have medical attention from British doctors. Was it not therefore logical to allow a. German doctor to come ashore to save a British life?
Members : Hear, hear. "Ib it a crime to save life?" Dr. Pomaie continued. "Some people are trying to make capital out of this." He said \o would take full responsibility for such an incident, and he would do the same thing again to save life. Members : Hear, hear.
