AN APPEAL FOR FUNDS. . The AdTisorr Board of the New Zealand Patriotic War Relief Association had before it yesterday tho following letter from the hon .secretary of the- Hawkes Bay War Relief Association: — Mr. T. Masou Chambers, president of this association, has just reocived tho following cablo from General Russell.— "Please urge on Ministry need of gonereras financial support N.Z.E.F. education schetae. Estimate at least fifty thousand, in addition to scholarships. Immodiato decision, necassary, otherwise soheme endangered. Expect good results, increased effieionoy of individual and benofit to State. If Ministry rofuso, will personally subscribe one thousand if fifty thousand available by Christmas." The chairman (Mr. L. O. H. Tr-ipp) said tho Minister of Defence, to whom the matter had been referred, had written' stating that he did not think it necessary for Mr. Mason Chambers to take any action, as tho Government accepteds fiill responsibility for education schemes which are approved.
