Ten men were penalised by Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court to-day for their undue partiality to liquor. Two first offenders were fined ss, in default 24 hours in gaol, and five others had their bail (10s) estreated; Thomas Austin and Bernard Traynor, both second offenders, were given the choice between paying fines of 10s and going to gaol for 48 hours. Sidney Watson, charged with having been found helplessly drunk, was remanded for medical treatment till 10th December. The London correspondent of The Post I writes'that'the. death has occurred in England, at the age of 64, of LieutenantColonel Kdmund M. T. Boddam, R.E., who once visited Australia and New Zealand as a. Commissioner to design and construct fortifications. Colonel Boddam. who was a cousin of Chief-De-tective Boddam, Wellington, was in New Zealand about, thirty years ago, and married Miss Hadley, of Hobart. He was a prominent cricketer.
