THE MAKURA'S MAILS

A portion of -the mails which arrived by the Makura at Auckland has been delivered in Wellington. Representations havo been made to The Post to tho effect that the foreign mails have not been properly fumigated, in that the seals on all letters have been left intact. This is reported to have caused some dissatisfaction among the local mail sorters. The official reply is that all the mails have been handled by the Health Department, which has taken every precaution to sco that they are free from any danger of infection. It would have been an utter impossibility (so it is stated) to open all tho letters. iThe mail matter for New Zealand was so extensive that tho task would have been a gigantic one. There were 2600 sacks for the Dominion.
