PARCELS FOR SOLDIERS
A SHIPPING DIFFICULTY,
The Minister of Defence (Sir James Allen) gives a warning to the public that the shortage of shipping space is a factor thut has to be considered in the sending of parcels to soldiers overseas. Personally, lie would like to encourage the despatch of gifts, but, unfortunately, trio shipping difficulty puts a- limitation on the quantity that can be carried. Therefore, relatives and friends of soldiers are advised to refrain from sending large, packages. Unless people respect the plea for smalhiess, the authorities may not be abb to find the accommodation desired.
Recently, after long correspondence, the Defence Department managed to get a clearance of the parcels accumulated at X shed, Wellington. About five hundred tons went in this "clean sweep," but the Minister says that this was more or less a. lucky accident, because certain other cargo had" not come forward in time.
