WELLINGTON PATRIOTIC SOCIETY

NOT APPROVED' UNDER WAR FUNDS ACT.

"Recently there have been statements published in the Evening Post in regard to the Wellington Patriotic Society," said the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. G. W. Hussell) this morning. "For the information of the public it may be stated that this society ceased to be an approved society under the War Funds Act in October last year, and it is not now authorised to receive . or collect money for any purpose in connection with the war. "When the final settlement was made in regard to this society it was ascertained that a considerable sum of money had been spent by it in the purchase of band instruments. It was understood that these instruments were to be vested in the Mayor of Wellington and the Hon. J. G. W. Aitken as trustees. As nothing further has been heard of this matter, a letter has been sent to the Mayor and Mr. Aitken enquiring whether any steps have been taken to give effect to the arrangements made for the trusteeship."
