GAME.
Wellington North district met the Mar-tinboi-ough School team on Anderson Park yesterday afternoon, in ideal weather. Wellington won the toss, and elected to play with the wind and sun in their favour. From, the kick-off Gardiner secured and returned to Cudby, who sent across, but Lewis was off side. Cudby again got possession, and centred, Brown missing badly. Give and take play followed. Througli a misunderstanding on the part of the visitors' fullback, J. Tancred ran through and scored. A penalty against Perry for "hands" was taken by Tancred, who missed the posts. Shortly afterwards, Tancred secured, and beat the visitors' goal-keeper, who made no attsmpfc to save. Wellington was easily superior, and Tancred shot from half-way, , again scoring. Brown and Cudby were responsible for some good play. The latter sent to Tancred, who netted. Martinborough conceded three corners in succession, from one of which Tancred again scored.' Wellington was having all the best, of the game. A fine passing rush was spoilt by Lewis being off-side. Smith conceded a (corner, and Lewis, securing easily, beat the goal-keeper. Half-time wae sounded with the were: Wellington 6, Martinborough 0. The visitors in the second half played with much more confidence and vim, and were able to keep the home team busy. Wright broke away and shot hard, the Wellington goalkeeper, Andrews, saving nicely. From a passing rush Brown secured and beat Feist, making Wellington 7, Martinborough 0. The wh.i,stle sounded shortly afterwards. • Although defeated, the visitors, especially in the second half, put up a good fight, and should have a much better display to-day in their match at Kilbirnie against the South districts.
