SOLDIER PATIENTS
HOSPITAL BOARD'S ATTITUDE.
Mr. H. Baldwin, chairman of the Wellington Hospital Board, remarked to-day that the report of the Defence Department's -decision to lease the Lahman Home, to accommodate the overflow from the Victoria Ward, might leave a wrong impression on the public mind as to the board's attitude in regard to hospital provision for soldier patients. He said that the board had offered to the Defence Department a site for a hospital building between the Children's Hospital and the Victoria Ward. The board had agreed to assist the Department in every way possible. This offer was made on an understanding that when the building was no longer required by the Defence Department it would b*e taken over by the board, at valuation. Nothing had been, received from the Defence Department so far to indicate that the offer had been declined; it had not been withdrawn.
