A member of one of the Reinforcn ments now in camp, named R. J. Staples, was charged before Mr. S. E. M'Carthy, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court to-day, with having been found without lawful excuse on the licensed premises of the Occidental Hotel, and in the course of the evidence for the prosecution, Sergeant Mathieson stated that Staples had said he was a. boarder at>tlio hotel, but when his leave pass was examined it was found 1, that ho was due back in camp at 11 p.m. the same night. The defendant, on oath, stated that no questions were asked as to whether he was a boarder, when ho was accosted by the sergeajit ho produced liis leave pass, and there the ■matter ended. He stated further that ho had called in at. tile hotel for dinner, and, being a friend of the licensee, had spent the eveningl in the hotel. The information waa dismissed.
