Reuters correspondent at the British Headquarters, referring to the withdrawal north of the battlefield, says Yon Ludendorff's recent order that ground must be given up if holding on entails undue expenditure of man-power, is largely responsible for this new development. Moreover the wonderful success of our light tanks has probably imr pressed the German High Command with the desirability of getting behind a river wherever this is practicable. We have now passed points so far towards Bucquoy that the Hebuterne salient has practically disappeared^ The Australians have slightly advanced their line on ' the main battlefront..
