SUPPLIES FROM CANADA

REASSURING STATEMENT.

The Hon. Arthur Myers states ' that the Government of Canada has recently found it necessary to restrict the ex r portation of certain supplies which are needed for essential industries .in New Zealand. On receipt of this information, the New Zealand Government cabled to the Hon. G. W. Fester, {Acting-Prime-Minister of Canada), in order to ascertain the position. A letter received by last mail from Mr. Foster indicates it is the desire of his Government that an authority recognised by %he New Zealand Government should make suitable representations to the authorities in Canada requesting, release of these restricted goods where circumstances .justify such a course of action.. Mr. Myers, acting in. anticipation of this request, has been supporting orders by New Zealand importers, which were placed on Canadian exporters. It is now also ascertained that the procedure adopted was, the correct one to follow.
