LAND TAX APPEAL CASE

Before his Honour Mr. Justice Hosking in the Supreme Court this morning, the case of Donald Cowper Yule v. the "Commissioner of Taxes was heard. The case came before the Court by way of appeal from a decision of the Commissioner of Taxes, wherein he decided that the appellant was liable for land tax on Certain* land in the Moroa Block, which land at 31st March last was subject to a leasa with a compulsory purchasing clause.- The question for decision was whether Yule is in possession of the land, and therefore entitled to exemption under the Finance Act, 1917. Sir John Salmond appeared for the Commissioner of Taxes and Mr. A; W. Blair for the appellant. After hearing argument, his Honour reserved his decision.
