SYDNEY, 12th July.

In connection with the allegations that the Government had promised £2000 to a man named Scully to secure evidence to convict I.W.W. men, and that he had been allowed to leave the country, it is announced that the Government has taken steps to intercept Scully on his way to San Francisco, and will endeavour to induce him to return.

The Attorney-General, My. Hall, stated that the Crown paid Scully.£s2o, being his share of the reward and maintenance during the court cases and final settlement. Scully left the country at his own request because he feared for his personal safety. He was unable to obtain employment, and was destitute of funds. He appealed for SIOOO to enable him to start on a new career elsewhere; and commenced an action against the-Government for compensation for the losses .incurred. Finally he agreed to accept £150 in settlement and way the expenses of his pasage. Tile police therefore were not responsible for his. leaving, as had been alleged.
