WRECKS IN PACIFIC.

JOHN MURRAY AND ANNIE ' LARSEN LOST.

While bound from San Francisco 'to Melbourne, the barque Johri Murray, some time the Victorian Government's training ship, and 1 latterly attached to the Commonwealth line, became a total wreck on Maiden Island in mid-Pacific. This .information was ■contained in an official statement made in Melbourne on 2nd July by Mr. Poynton (ActingMinister for the 'Navy). The entire crew was landed on Maiden Island, and the master and two sailors reached Fanning Island in a lifeboat. The shipping authorities arranged for a relief ship to leave America, to pick up the crew and bring them on to Melbourne. Following was the personnel of the vessel when she left Melbourne in January last for San Francisco :—G. E. Vaughan, master; R. Clmgg, chief officer; J. Manning second officer; F. T. Henderson, chjet steward ; 3*. Whitty, second steward ; R. Rogers, chief cook; T. Taylor, second cook ; R. Andrews, bosun ; 0. Cameron, carpenter; 0. Owen, A. H. M'Tvor, P. Hodsman, J. Bell, A. Wettlesen, D. Thompson, D. Lavetto, W. Fryer, E. Murphy, A. Johansen, Or. Rixon, and H. S. M'Nair, nil able seamen ; N. C. Anderson and T. Fry, ordinary seamen; A. Robertson, J. F. M. Heddle, R. S. Hatrick, T. T. Commaille, E. M. Fiddes, T. 0. Craddock, and H. R. Rutter, apprentices. Of these 0. Owen, A. WeUleaan, *nft E. 8. M'Nair (able seamen) are known to bave left the vessel at San Francisco. The John Murray had a number of motorcars on board. She was built at Glasgow in 1877, anil was 1183 tons gross. Her length, was 228 ft sin, beam 35ft Bin, and depth 21ft 3in.

On the same day that the announcement of the John Murray's loss was ma.de, news was received in Sydney reporting the loss near Panning Island of the American schooner Annie Larsen. The vessel was bound from Hilo (Hawaiian Group) to Papeete (Society Group) to load copra for San Francisco. ■ No particulars are to hand regarding the crew, but it is believed that they aro all safe, The Annie Larsen was a three-masted schooner of 326 tons, built at Port Blalcely in 1881. Her dimensions were:—Length 143ffj Bin, beam 34ft 6in, and' depth of hold lift.
