CLAIM FOR DAMAGES
Further evidence was heard to-day in the Magistrate's Court, before Mr. W. Ct. Biddell, S.M., in regard to a civil action for £150 damages, made by Robert Richards, waterside worker, for whom Mr. H. F. O'Leary appeared, against Alfred M. Guy, dairyman, who was represented by Mr. D. Jackson. The case for the plaintiff was. that on 9th March the plaintiff, with other waterside workers, was waiting for a tram at the corner of Featherston and Bunny streets, when, it was alleged, the defendant's motor-car came along the road on the wrong side, and, suddenly running across the street to get in front of a tramcar, struck plaintiff in the back, injuring him to such an extent that he was unable to return to work for nine weeks. The defence raised today was that the plaintiff had been guilty of contributory negligence in standing on the road. Judgment was reserved.
