FIERCE BATTLES AND AN ORGY OF CRIME

LONDON, 17th-February. Delayed Petrograd telegrams disclose reports of terrible fighting and many fluctuating bactles_ in Finland and the Ukraine. Bussian guaardships seized three thousand Finns who were returning home from. Germany, and handed them to the Bed Guards. Crimes of all sorts are increasing in. Petrograd and other cities, and lawlessness is extending to many country districts. The latest' robberies at Moscow include gold plate, jewelled missals, and mitres valued at three million sterling. The Dutch Ambassador at Petrogra<d! was seized and robbed. Armed bands are robbing the posh offices. Peasants; at Dankoff looted landowners' houses and then fought over the division of the- lands. There is bitter distress among all classes. Typhus has appeared in Petrograd, and there has been an outbreak of plague in Southern Russia. (Received February 19, 9.15 a^m.) WASHINGTON, 18th February. • Advices from Petrograd state that nearly a. hundred people were killed during rioting in Petrograd, where anarchy prevails. The White Guards at Potchersk massacred 1400 Bed Guards. LONDON, 17th February., The first telegram from Petrograd since 6th. February shows that street shooting has been the order of the day, especially after nightfall, when the. absence of light favours the hooligans. There lms been mucb pillaging, and many people have been killed or wounded.
