QUEENSLAND LABOUR CONFERENCE.

The. annual Labour-in-Politics Convention of Queensland (controlling the Labour Government of that State) is now in. progress. The proposals to bo dealt with cover a wide field. Nationalisation and Government monopoly have come- in for considerable attention, and under that heading are included education (complete), medical profession, State sweepstakes, sawmills, meatworks, abattoirs, brickworks, cement works,' liquor trafiio, fertilisers, and erection of dwellings under the Workers' Compensation Act. A Right to Work Act is requested. The democratic principle of one class on the railways is _ advocated. Free speech by statutory right is demanded, including Sunday meetings. Another proposal is for statutory regulation of hours of labour, with a. maximum of 40 hours a week, with a maximum of 8 hours in any one day. Another item affecting the toilers is one' proposing compulsory insurance against unemployment.
